Audio Gospels
"If you know me,
then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him."
John 14:7
The divinity and richness and power and humanness of Jesus can be encountered via live, in-person, proclamation of the Gospels. But listening to an audio gospel can be a worthwhile alternative, especially when there’s no Jesus Gallery near you offering the live venue! So below are just a few examples; your own searches may turn up many additional choices. I suggest you avoid “dramatized” versions and “movie” gospels. Rather, get as close to a straight forward proclamation of a good translation as you can.
THE GOSPELS COME TO LIFE. Set of 8 audio CDs of Michael W. Smith narrating The World English Bible translations of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; musical accompaniment by Michael Omartian. Integrity Publishers, © 2002, ISBN 1591451299. An excellent resource; Smith’s narration is clear and clean, easy to listen to; background music is very much in the background, unobtrusive, never takes over, yet gives the whole production a comfortable setting.
Biblegateway.com has audio for the following translations (as of September 2016):
1599 Geneva Bible
English Standard Version
Holman Christian Standard Bible
King James Version
Lexham English Bible
The Message
New American Standard Bible
New International Version
New International Version – UK
YouTube.com has audio of the following translations, and probably many more:
New King James Version, posted by GodCENTEREDLives
New Living Translation, posted by wmforce
Searching on YouTube seems to bring up numerous similar “hits” no matter how specific one tries to be, at least in my experience. Be prepared to scan the list carefully to distinguish between straight forward gospel audios vs. movies, dramatized versions, and lectures or interpretive presentations.
